How much experience does the staff
have?
Refer to the artist linked on the menu.
What can you do for
people who are really nervous?
Most of the time we offer one of our many beanie animals (some are
pierced) for people to squeeze. We also crack a lot of jokes to relax
people. Just because we’re serious about our work, doesn’t mean we’re
serious about everything else. We like to have fun. If those 2 things
don’t work we’ve also got a ball pine hammer waiting in back. >:P
Do you take credit
cards?
Nope, cash ONLY. This means no plastic, checks, or food stamps.
CASH
ONLY!
Do you have birthday
specials?
We have the same great special every day. If it's your Birthday, then
it's only that much more special.
Does it hurt?
Everyone is different. It also depends on where you are getting tattooed
or pierced, and sometimes even the artist doing your work.
How old do you have to
be?
While some shops will, we do not tattoo or pierce ANYONE under the age
of 18.
Why 18?
Ever notice that at 16 you are still growing and changing fast enough to
make your tattoo or piercing look like crap later on. Most of the people
we have coming into our shop that have problems with their tattoo or
piercing are younger then 18. There are other reasons, but this is the
short version.
If I want color will it
cost more?
Hmmm… let’s think about this. Colors or greys that have variation and
contrast and many other good points, compared to however long of doing
just BLACK. While small black tats aren’t bad. Colors are almost always
more fun, and therefore your artist likes doing the tattoo more.
How do you charge for
tattoos?
At Affinity we charge by the hour. Our rate is currently $125 an hour, With a $75 Dollar minimum.
Do you do price quotes
over the phone?
For tattoos, NO! Without seeing the piece, we can’t give you an accurate
price. We could end up grossly over or under quoting you. Or you may
just get an answer like, $75-$750,000 or $1 million.
For piercing we can only give you an average price range.
What should I look for
when looking for a shop to do my work?
Portfolios are a must. If the artist can’t show you that they can do the
artwork through pictures of what they have done, how do you know what
they can do or are good at? Cleanliness is a big factor also. If a shop
looks dirty it probably is. Clean shop, sterile equipment no problem.
Dirty shop, dirty equipment big problem. One more thing to look for is,
if you like or get along with your artist or piercer.
What kind of
sterilization do you use?
We use autoclave sterilization.
For people who don’t know what that is, it is sterilization using steam
and high pressure. Our autoclave is spore tested every month
to assure you that it is running and sterilizing properly. Since we
are required to keep everything on file for at least 2 years we can
show you that we have never failed any spore test whether we, or the
county health department performed it.
Let us give you an idea of how toasty these machines get.
An autoclave that runs at 270 degrees Fahrenheit using water steam takes
only 3 minutes to kill the spore test. We run our autoclave at 270-275
degrees Fahrenheit and 30-40 PSI for at least 30 minutes.
State and county laws require 250 degrees Fahrenheit, with 15 PSI for 30
minutes. There’s no such thing as overkill when it comes to
sterilization.
Do you reuse any tattoo
or piercing needles?
Absolutely not, never ever, ever, we never reuse ANY needles. We don’t
even use the same needle on the same person twice. You come in, and get
tattooed then that or those needles are trashed. Even if you come in for
say, 2 earlobe piercings we will use 2 different needles.
How long have you been
in business?
Affinity Body Art has been open since 2001. Crazy Dave on the other hand has been working in Sioux
Falls and a few other places as a piercer since 1991 and as a tattoo
artist 1992. Crazy Dave now owns Affinity Body Art.
How family friendly are
you and your shop?
We are very family friendly. No swastikas here, because we don’t do any
racist, demeaning, or discriminating work. We even let people bring
their kids in with them as long as they don’t run around screaming and
are supervised.
How long do I have to
wait to give blood?
With tattoos you have to wait an entire year. It is the same for
donating plasma. You are also asked to wait a year after getting any
body piercings. For more information on this please visit:

and search tattoos.
